The ‘kidney bean'(Rajmah) otherwise called ‘the chili bean’ with its dark red skin is named for its visual resemblance to a kidney.
Kidney beans are a helpful source of zinc, folate and protein. They are also very high in dietary fiber and hence a healthy source of carbohydrates for persons with insulin sensitivity or diabetes. In Myanmar, Red Kidney beans is gown during winter seasons (starting October), and it is harvested in March to April. The main Kidney Beans growing regions are Kachin, Kayar, Sagaing, Shan (North). Myanmar annually produces around 25,000 tons.
