Red Kidney Beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) is one of the most popular varieties of common beans, widely consumed around the world for its rich nutritional value and versatility in cooking. The ‘kidney bean'(Rajmah) otherwise called ‘the chili bean’ with its dark red skin is named for its visual resemblance to a kidney.
Kidney beans are a helpful source of zinc, folate and protein. They are also very high in dietary fiber and hence a healthy source of carbohydrates for persons with insulin sensitivity or diabetes. With their strong demand both in domestic and export markets, Red Kidney Beans are considered an important agricultural commodity worldwide.
The commercial production of beans is well-distributed worldwide with countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, Oceania, South and North America all among the top bean growers. Brazil and India are the largest producers of dry beans.

In Myanmar, Red Kidney beans is gown during winter sea‌sons (starting October), and it is harvested in March to April. The main Kidney Beans growing regions are Kachin, Kayar, Sagaing, Shan (North). Myanmar annually produces around 25,000 tons.
